I had my first dressing-table when I got married - in the corridor, because our bathroom was too small. My current table is by Knowles & Christou. The Beaubourg chair is from the library at the Pompidou. When they changed the furniture they put all the original chairs out in the square for the public to take. I bought this at auction 10 years ago.
On my dressing-table is everything I use for my daily routine. I apply toner and firming serum, then brush my teeth. Then I put on moisturiser and foundation, a little over the centre of my face, then powder, and pinkish blush just on the apples of my cheeks. For evening I do more to my eyes - pale shadow all over, silvery grey along the lash line and underneath, and a very dark-brown pencil, less hard than black. Then mascara. Visine eye drops, which I buy in America, make my eye whites brighter. My favourite lipstick is a pinkish coral, Sisley L9; it gives the face character without being a red, which is too strong for me.
I don't have regular blow-dries; I use volumising spray and dry my hair upside-down. My tortoiseshell brushes, which belonged to my family, give good shine. If I had time I'd use my heated rollers more often. sisley-cosmetics.com

I have my dressing-table in front of the window just as my mother did. She insisted on daylight, because she would never want to look anything other than natural. I was such a hippy in my youth that I didn't have a dressing-table until I was in my twenties. Today everything on it has a story: there's the antique Chinese scent bottle, given to me by an ex-boyfriend in Paris; my mother's pink china cigarette case, which now holds things like nail scissors; I found the turquoise pot in the late 1980s in China while on an American Vogue shoot with Linda Evangelista; the 1940s gold-link bracelet was the inspiration for the lid of the bottle for my fragrance, Plum.
My daily routine starts in the bath where I use a Clarisonic cleansing brush with a face wash. I apply a mask (Sisley, Suqqu or Chanel) and a body moisturiser. Then on go all the facial moisturisers - SK-II Facial Treatment Essence, Chanel Sublimage Fluid, Suqqu Moist Flow Lotion and, last, La Prairie Cellular Radiance Emulsion SPF30 - and that's just for day! I like to layer
several light moisturisers rather than one heavier product because it makes the skin look younger and fresher, reflecting the light better. I'm lucky that my job gives me access to all these products.
After years of working with some of the world's most beautiful faces, from Christy Turlington to Uma Thurman, I've road-tested every make-up product going and learnt what works for me. I always wear foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, mascara, lipstick and blush. I like rusty browns on my eyes - Dior at the moment. If you're in a hurry all you need is mascara, blush and concealer; an even skin tone will always make you look great.

My first dressing-table was in my teenage bedroom. On it were my mother's old black and green eyeliners, clear nail varnish, cheap mascara and red lipstick. My icon back then was Paloma Picasso, her 1980s look: hair scraped back, smoky eyes and red lipstick. Today my dressing-table is spread across three different locations, but the prettiest is this 1920s Venetian table in the bathroom.
I don't have much time for a morning beauty routine because I have to run the kids to school. I splash on cold water, apply my Dr Frances Prenna Jones toner, sunscreen and a bit of make-up. I use dark-brown eyeliner with powder shadow on top, to make it last - YSL or Chanel - mascara and my Belmacz lip-gloss. Belmacz is a jeweller and when its designer, Julia Muggenburg, couldn't find a gloss she liked, she started to make her own with crushed pearls and gold leaf. You can now buy it [from cultbeauty.co.uk ] . I've commissioned my own colour, to give to friends.
Perfumes have always played an important part in my life. My taste has come a long way from my first, Loulou by Cacharel and Sun by Jil Sander, both given to me by my godfather when I was 15. I was a perfume junkie in my twenties. I thought the bigger the name and more flashy the bottle the better. But of course it is about what's inside. I loved Chanel 22 when it was revived [in 2007]; at the time nobody else seemed to know about it. Now I only use very special and rare scents like Escentric Molecules 01. It is highly sensitive to body chemistry and changes as the
day goes on. atelier-mayer.com
